Cartridge, DE or Sand: What Goes Wrong and How We Fix It
Cartridge filters are the most common type in Central Florida. Pleated cartridges wear out after a few years of cleaning; torn pleats or a crushed core let dirt straight through. Usually the fix is a new cartridge and a fresh lid O-ring.
DE filters filter the finest, but a torn grid sends DE powder back into the pool as a gray cloud. We replace the grids, recoat them with fresh DE and check the air relief valve and center band O-ring.
Sand filters lose efficiency as the sand wears smooth. Sand on the pool floor usually means a broken lateral inside the tank. We replace the laterals or sand, or the whole unit if the tank is cracked.
